SolusOS 2 Alpha 5 available to download + Photos

SolusOS the distribution of the moment, reaches its fifth (and last) Alpha highlighting the work that its developers have been doing with GnomeClassic 3.4 (not Fallback), to deliver a distribution with very updated packages, all about debian wheezy.

As they well point out in the official announcement, every effort has been made to give Gnome classic a better appearance, which makes it difficult to differentiate it from the already almost obsolete Gnome 2, making a great effort to also improve its usability. The included Software is as follows:

  • Libre Office 3.5.4-2
  • Linux 3.3.6-soluses (BFS / preempt)
  • Firefox and Thunderbird 13.0.1
  • Adobe Flash 11.2.202.235
  • VLC 2.0.1
  • gnome-panel-1: 3.4.2.1 5-solusos1
  • nautilus 1: 3.4.2-1.2
  • solus desktop 3.4.3.2.1

Among many other applications, including proprietary codecs to improve the user experience and firmware for WLAN chips.

Let's take a look at how the desktop is looking, in which we are waiting for the first Beta:

great, thanks for the info. ah this distro can you put the official debian repositories as its testing and sid branch?

    1.    elav <° Linux said

In fact I think it uses the Testing + officials of their own. Now the SID ones, I don't know ...

It is to know, since if it acts as a rolling machine it would be very useful, since one of the things that bothers me is to go about formatting when a new version of the distro that I am using comes out, also I already try with Debian but I make your system so outdated

        1.    Gabriel Andrade (@zurdo_utm) said

It uses the testing repos, but I think not as a rolling release. When debian wheezy is released as a stable version, it will stick with those repositories, I don't know if that's what you're looking for

What a wave killed! Are you going to enter SolusOS?

Ubuntu is increasingly similar to Windows, meta formatting between versions of the xD distro
Sid-based, but stable, you have aptosid, Sidduction and Semplice GNU / Linux.
Of the three aptosid and Sidduction are very similar, in fact Sidduction was formed by devs who left aptosid after some internal disagreements; both have KDE SC and Xfce versions, although the truth is that the KDE versions of these distros APEST, are slow, heavy -they look like Sabayon- and have very few plasmoids in their repos to expand the environment.
I like Semplice better, it is much closer to Crunchbang -great distro [trolling] despite being Debian-based [/ trolling] - since it uses Openbox + Tint2 and I think they are preparing a version with Xfce 4.10 and LXDE

My brother greetings .. if you want a system that is up to date with the packages you should try Fedora ..

At first it costs because it is another type of system and other types of packages .. but it is what is closest to the normal user who wants to have the latest in the system, unless you like Rolling Release distros

It has a very MINT look from what I see. It's interesting, I'm sure I tried it as soon as the stable version 2 comes out, is there a release date?

Every day the graphical experience of SolusOS gets more beautiful 😉

although it is not recommended that it be installed yet .. because the thing is still green ..

Well, I don't know what you'll see in this distro that the others don't have, except for the artwork ...

I don't know, maybe a Debianite heart beats in his chest.

It only has a small but solvable defect, it is difficult to install Mysql but nothing that a linuxero can not face 😉

  7.   oberost said

After testing it on my old laptop (and the only one I have) it seemed very slow and heavy to be a debian

    1.    Tammuz said

I did not recognize the wi-fi, for debian based it is not the best, LMDE if it was good, it hurts that I uninstalled it

  8.   Carlos Eduardo Gorgonzalez Cart said

Do you know if it is already possible to choose two or more HDD when it is installed? It is that in 1.1 I could not choose my second hard drive (home), so I no longer installed it.
    Greetings.

Solus OS is the best, it is one of my favorite distros, it is elegant and very functional, I love it 🙂

    1.    seadx6 said

In short, it is a very complete distro since it makes Debian stable a more enjoyable interactive and updated experience and as an extra in version 2 it uses Gnome 3 but it does not seem like it, its Gnome classic is like Gnome 2 but with Gnome technologies 3

Without a doubt, SolusOS is the Linux distribution of the moment. Will he unseat Mint? I think the answer is yes, at least as far as its Debian-based version is concerned. SolusOS has taken the cat to the water.
I look forward to the release of this second version. I have the current version running on a netbook and it goes a long way: light, elegant and efficient.

At the moment I see that it has an improved version of the mint menu, getting a little closer to the win7 menu, I give it the benefit of the doubt, since if Ubuntu has been the starting point to develop other distros; linux mint could also be a point of inspiration for many others, right?

  12.   David deL (@david_de_L) said

Excuse me. Is this distro "out of the box" like mint?
