Poll: How long ago did you buy your last proprietary show / game?

Come on, we are not fiscal controllers or Microsoft agents, we just want to know how long ago did you buy your last show or proprietary game. You may still follow using some, but not that you bought it: maybe they loaned it to you, it magically installed on your computer, you downloaded it along with its respective crack / serial without knowing that it was precisely what you were looking for, etc. The question here, however, is how long ago You bought one.

And the pirate of the year award goes to ...

& amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; lt; br / & amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; gt; & amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; <a href = »http://polldaddy.com/poll/5114568/» & amp; amp; amp; amp ; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; gt; How long ago did you buy your last proprietary show / game? & amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp ; amp; amp; lt; / a & amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; gt; & amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; lt; span style = »font-size: 9px;» & amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; gt; & amp; amp ; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; <a href = »http://polldaddy.com/features-surveys/» & amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; gt; online surveys & amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; lt; / a & amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; gt; & amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; lt; / span & amp; amp ; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; gt; & amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; lt; br / & amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; gt;

I'm not going to be a moralist, I know that there are some situations in which we download pirated proprietary programs because there really is no other alternative.

However, there is also a lot of cheap hacktivism. Don't believe the verse: piracy doesn't really harm software makers (So if you felt like a BIG PIRATE that damaged Microsoft & Cía even minimally, forget about that idea).

Also, I recommend that you subscribe to blogs like this and many others to keep you informed about the free tools that can replace the ones you are currently using. Yes, of course, you are already Richard Stallman himself and you even managed to free the kernel from those proprietary blobs. In that case, actually become Stallman and divulge the word of Free Software.

The last proprietary video game that I bought was Valve's Orange Box in 2007 and I still have it, I have no longer been able to buy original games (that are not warlike or with violent content) not because I did not want to, but because I could not already that in my country there is a stupid law against war games that makes it almost impossible for you to get them legally, which has increased the pirate market, and I take advantage of it XD.

Well, for me the steam sales and the thousands of mods that the community creates make it worth the € 50 (if anything) that I spend a year on games. And the compilations of the humbleindiebundle were irresistible!

Before learning about GNU / Linux, I do not deny that due to ignorance and ignorance I bought or downloaded Pirate Programs, this due to the cost of the originals. I love IT but no one is going to deny that between supporting the family and spending the family budget on programs there was nowhere to get lost and at least in Latin America the original software is very expensive, but since I discovered the world of Free Software (Blessed be the day I made the decision and I dared to try it without knowing anything about Linux) a little over two years ago, I have never seen the need to buy something tricky again. At least that's my experience. Greetings Pablo.

The only "original" program I bought was MONKEY ISLAND 3 ... And I'm not sure it was so original ... The drama is that I bought computers and they fitted windows ... I had to install linux on my own.

Those could be considered proprietary software?

  14.   carlos_su27 said

I have never bought directly, that is, when I bought my laptop it came with W7 pre-installed and licensed… so technically I bought it… I requested that it not come like that but they didn't have that alternative… so I played. I think you missed that option in the survey. Come on SL !!!

I adopted free software at the end of my professional career, before that I used non-legal copies of software (it is not correct to call it piracy) After that I entered the world of freedom, however linux gaming sucks ... Today I work and the only thing that I buy are video games ...
It should be noted that I give them preference if they run on linux like world of goo.
Personally I think that the free paradigm is not for videogames ... (unfortunately) I would settle for giving native support for all linux.

The Humble Bundle games were mostly proprietary, although in some the code was published, others the code is given with the acquisition ... and of course, those who gave it to the community after seeing their interest ^^

I have acquired all the packs ..., although I barely play anymore ..., at least I can say that I have paid for some software in the last months XD. Luckily today there are free and / or free alternatives more than enough = D

in my case, when I bought the desktop PC, my brother installed a version of XP licensed by agreement between the University where he studies and Microsoft. With my laptop, I had no choice, since they did not recognize the difference for rejecting the copy of Windows with which it came installed. I must add that according to the clerk, the warranty was voided if I modified the system installation, which happened only 20 minutes later, when at that moment I installed Ubuntu!

now what stops me from getting rid of Windows totally is Office. unfortunately LO does not properly open docx, xlsx and pptx files. I tried an installation via Wine and it works relatively well, but it is not desirable either. I hope that it improves it quickly to remove all traces of Windows from my laptop. and I hope to finish my career in software to collaborate too !!!

I have bought two Humble Blundles (I like to support the Indie industry, and as many of the developers have said they had already released the code;).

I guess PS3 games count too, don't they?

With games I have no problem, because what foundation is going to support the development of a game. Unless I know something like: request for donations - game development - code release and release (that would be nice).

exact! also buy humble blundles, I think you have to support the free software industry. I also make donations or buy your items ... backpacks, clothes, CDs, etc. by the way, I recommend the ubuntu backpack and sweatshirt

There the problem is that Microsoft releases the formats (which it will never do). Otherwise, you cannot blame LibreOffice x for not supporting a closed file format that does not disclose its technical specifications and internals. 🙁
It is also the other way around: MS Office does not provide support for free formats (odt, etc.).

The trap is set, they lock you up on both sides.

In fact, the specifications of its formats are publicly accessible (traditionally they were on demand and with a restrictive license still on top). They released the specifications of the binary formats (.doc, .xls, .ppt, ...) a few years ago it is clear that trying to implement them becomes almost impossible. For example, if I remember correctly the .doc specification was crazy like 600+ pages with references to different versions of MS Word in between.

The "new" XML-based formats also have their specifications available to anyone, and I think I recall that the specification was more reasonable (like ~ 100 pages: D: D), I don't know if it will all be covered in those documents.

And a note, I do not know what its implementation will be like but at least Office 2010 does support free formats, it can be opened and saved in them perfectly :).

Ahhh and an anecdote that seems remarkable in this regard, a friend recently bought a Dell laptop and we agreed that I would prepare it; so I was the first to fiddle with it and such haha. The fact is that I saw that a copy of Office 2010 Starter was pre-installed (I think it was starter, the most basic, the one with ads). When starting Word I got a screen with which I was freaking out, on that screen there was information about Microsoft's XML formats and about OpenDocuments !!! I was wondering which one I wanted to keep by default, and although the MS ones were selected, you could also choose the others!

This has never happened to me again, of course I have always installed and worked with standard editions of Office. (I also think I still have an image from before touching the PC, if I find it and restore it, I will put a screenshot for you to see 😉
