Survey results: what is your preferred distro?

We can finally know the results of this month's survey: what is your favorite distro? And it comes with some interesting little surprises ...

Result

  • Ubuntu (includes Kubuntu, Xubuntu, etc.): 339 votes, 60.86%
  • Debian: 55 votes, 9.87%
  • Linux Mint: 46 votes, 8.26%
  • Fedora and derivatives: 33 votes, 5.92%
  • Arch: 29 votes, 5.21%
  • Another: 18 votes, 3.23%
  • openSUSE: 16 votes, 2.87%
  • Gentoo and derivatives: 9 votes, 1.62%
  • Mandriva: 8 votes, 1.44%
  • Slackware: 4 votes, 0.72%
  • Puppy LInux and derivatives: 0 votes, 0%

Conclusions

  • Ubuntu + Debian + Mint account for almost 80% of the votes.
  • The difference between 1st and 2nd place is overwhelming (50% of the votes!)
  • It is striking that Arch is in 5th place. I say this because one imagines that popular distro = "beginner" distro. Arch seems to contradict this rule.
  • Puppy Linux, despite being among the 10 most popular distros according to Distrowatch, did not get a measly vote. Could it be that it is not popular in the Spanish-speaking community?

I have recently read this blog and it is the first time I comment on one of the news so hello everyone.

I am not surprised by the results of the survey, I suppose I expected it in some way; most of the people I know use Ubuntu or derivatives.

What you say about Puppy, although I think it is an excellent distribution, I have not voted for it despite using it. I use it as well as live "multipurpose" in an old Pentium III desktop that I have and for the years that it has the hardware makes quite good use of it.

On my daily computer I have Arch installed. Arch does not have to be called "for non-beginners", although in my case I have gone through several distributions I think that a beginner with the spirit of learning would not have very difficult to create an Arch desktop; the guides and the Wiki are quite good (I don't know in Spanish, I usually read them in English).

I at Arch have found the simplicity I was looking for along with the potential of other distributions. For example, if you want to compile your entire system as in Gentoo you can do it through ABS, and if there are no binary packages as in other distros (let's think for example in the KDE SC compilation time, although I don't use it, I know it's a time important). The ease of creating packages is also remarkable, the specifications file (PKGBUILD) is easier for me than those of Fedora for example. Honestly, I'm glad there are 28 other readers using it.

    A greeting.

Ubuntu prefer it because it is easy to use, but those who enter the system want something better, I go for debian or its derivative mint debian
