Try Gnome 3.4 from a LiveCD

If you are a user of Gnome, you can already try the just released version 3.4 making use of a LiveCD de Fedora, which includes all the applications of the controversial Desktop Environment.

The iso can be downloaded from this link, and to insert it into a memory USB we follow the following steps:

  • We insert the device (any data it contains will be deleted)
  • We execute dmesg in the terminal, in order to know in which unit we are going to copy the iso, normally it would be sdb
  • To write the image we execute: sudo dd if=GNOME-3.4.iso of=/dev/sdb bs=8M conv=fsync.
  • When the operation is finished, we reboot with the USB memory inserted and we boot through it.

Enjoy !!

I am not able to adapt to Gnome Shell, and every time I try the new inventions that are being developed on Gnome 3, I miss Gnome 2 more. Today trying Zorin OS I got nostalgia again ... But hey, missing of that endearing environment, we will always have XFCE.

Don't worry Gnome classic is back .. and it will be available in ubuntu 12.04 just by opening the software center and placing "gnome-panel" .. here is a good example

In any distribution with Gnome 3 you can use Gnome the old way you just need to run in a terminal:

      killall gnome-shell

      after:

      metacity

      and finally:

      gnome-panel

this procedure can be done in that live-cd that they advertise here.

      Greetings.

I know, it's not the same Gnome Shell as Gnome 3, and the fallback mode or the future Gnome Classic brings a similar experience to Gnome 2. In any case, I still have to test that Gnome Classic to render a verdict, because the fallback mode I find it very improvable.

      A greeting.

Yes, I'm curious to try it, heh, but I'd better wait for the release of Fedora 17. Although I'm going to try Ubuntu 12.04 first, which is coming out and I'm looking forward to trying it.

    Greetings.

I used that command and it did not work for me. I get multiple errors when booting.

Every day I like Gnome-Shell more. I tested the Win 8 consumer preview yesterday, but what a dreadful new environment!

Yes, window 8 is crazy ... Gnome Shell + some other extensions can be very nice ... in fact I use it that way, I add extensions.

There are times when you get tired of the bar of cinnamon and you need to go back to the effects that gnome shell offers ..

It is true NOT everyone likes it .. I was one of them .. at first I did not adapt but not a bit ..

But then when you start using it, Gnome Shell creates a logic in you and suddenly you realize that you no longer need a bar to the left or to the bottom ... you realize that you don't want to see anything on the desktop, only your wallpaper .. and when you get used to just moving the pointer so that the open windows appear (@ __ @) you feel in glory 🙂 That is, Gnome Shell makes you detach from the bars ..

The only thing that I criticize are the fonts that it brings by default (those letters are very ugly) ahahaha but just by installing the package msttcorefonts holy remedy 🙂 everything is still beautiful ..

Check out this cool video of Gnome Shell

WTF? What msttcorefonts are they beautiful fonts? Turn arround over here and you will tell me .. Although good, for pleasure ...

I was referring to Arial fonts

I have it with Fedora, and I put the Ubuntufonts, they look great, try them.

        1.    jamin samuel said

it also serves the ubuntu sources .. it's a matter of taste ..

            Customs maybe ...

          2.    jamin samuel said

It could be .. but it is things of the personal taste of each one

      3.    jamin samuel said

But there are also times that well .. you just get tired of moving the pointer so much so that the windows appear .. and then you go back to Cinnamon or

Bottom bars are necessary ... to handle windows well

        Horrendous Gnome 3.4
I like the usability and power, and this environment to date, dispenses with it.
I tried to give it several opportunities from the beginning, and after a day or two I decided to uninstall it, since sooner or later it did not meet my needs.

By the way, I just saw the video, and it seems like another nonsense. A desktop environment is handled as it should be and not in that way, which looks more like a conductor.
The video seems funny to me, without a doubt. I imagine developers or administrators managing the system that way ...; Anyway, the world is crazy

It is not scary, they have simply transformed the pc into a tablet, but this is like all things, people will end up going through the windows 8 ring, whether they like it or not, although their quota will decrease somewhat.

From what I've been reading in various Windows forums, many Win 7 users are trilling. I don't think the migration is massive, although with Microsoft's marketing apparatus you never know. And yes, for me it is awful.

  8.   jose said

Those of Lion are also trilling with their "entabletado" system

    Gnome 3. 4 is great.

Good information, I am testing ubuntu 12.04 beta 2, and my wireless network card recognizes me well, and if I could connect, when the mini cd comes out it is the one that I am going to put with at least kde, gnome 3 does not like it.
