Testing Firefox 10

This article was published from Firefox 10, the new stable version of the browser Mozilla.

I must say that I have been amazed with the consumption of the browser, which starts with very little consumption of RAM and stays below 120Mb with more than 3 tabs open. You would have to find a way to do a more thorough test to see the Performance real at the end of it.

From the interface, we already know that the button disappears ForwardOutside of that, there is nothing more relevant to highlight. I also noticed that when I customize the icons and Toolbars, now I get the option to put the icons of the Status Bar.

I really liked the new look of the Inspector for Web Developers, very useful to obtain information about the different elements of a website.

The only thing that I keep missing is the possibility of Install uninstall the Extensions without having to restart the Browser. Firefox 10 It behaves a little better in general and although I hardly perceive it, many say that the speed when navigating increased considerably

Installation.

To use it I downloaded the tar.bz from the address that I put in this article, unzipped it and copied the folder firefox for / Opt /. Then create the file firefox.desktop en / usr / share / applications and I put this inside:

[code] [Desktop Entry] Name = Firefox
GenericName = Firefox
Comment = Web browser
Exec = / opt / firefox / firefox
Icon = firefox
StartupNotify = true
Terminal = false
Type = Application
Categories=Network;Webbrowser,Browser;

[/ Code]

This way I can launch it from the menu. Now I need to download Thunderbird 10 to try it 😀

    Well, 120MB for 3 tabs doesn't seem like an impressive achievement, but it remains to be seen how well it scales when tabs grow.

    For example, to minimize connection time, when I use a switched link I usually open between 30 and 80 tabs, I disconnect and then calmly review them (I realized the amount only a few days ago, after installing a plugin that counts open tabs)

    Is the inspector for web developers firebug, some other addon?

    Firebug is definitely not, Doom Inspector looks like me, but I don't know if it's the version I'm using that doesn't have the same functionalities.

      Well, I just read in the «What's new» of the FF10 release notes this: «Inspect tool with content highlighting, includes new CSS Style Inspector»
      Good, so I don't have to install Firebug (very good by the way) and I already have integrated tools for Web development and from what I see it seems better than Firebug, it has the amount of functionality it has.

    Some time ago, my friend told you, when I tried this version on the Aurora channel. Also say that it now has "the Scratchpad tool uses the Orion Code Editor" [ http://gespadas.com/firefox-10-0 ]

    We read!

    … I'm using it "right now" since I enter the debian backports, and it loads the webs faster; the inspector is very good and as far as memory is concerned he seems to consume a little less. There is no doubt that I am improving and I no longer regret having left chromium. I ask you a question, I could not recently find an option that enables me to see the environments of the sites by loading the preview in cache. You will know where it is, or from the about: config which option it is. -We are reading each other.

    Don't worry, I stopped paying attention to that rabble since version 3 and I had been doubting since the middle of version 2.

    Every time a new version comes out there are always some that I do not know if they get a lot of drugs in the celebration and then they are seeing superluminal speeds, miraculous bug fixes that everyone was waiting for, etc.

    Firefox is definitely lighter in this version (first time feeling fast on my modest PC). I'll be on the lookout, although I don't know if it will make me forget or Chromium for now.

    Hi Elav,
    Your article has been very useful to me as well as others that I found here.
    I have it integrated with KDE in Opensuse 12.1 64bits and visually it is perfect. I have installed the famous Oxygen Theme plugin which integrates quite well with KDE 4.7.2 except that when minimizing I cannot find the browser tab in my taskbar , which was already happening to me before installing the add-on and integrating it with KDE, I got the error overnight, I suppose due to the installation of some package. It's strange because it only happens to me with Firefox and not with the other applications, because Konqueror does appear in the tray after minimizing. Perhaps this failure has arisen to you or someone and could guide me. Thank you and congratulations for the site, it is very interesting.

      How strange what happens to you .. Try disabling all the add-ons to see ..

    Look, I have been messing around so much this morning that I no longer knew what I had done and what not, now I have made it good because nothing is minimized anymore if it is not with the window list plasma applet, which is not a bad option because Now I have everything collected but I will have to get used to it. For the moment I will not play anymore. Thank you.
