Kernel developer Greg Kroah-Hartman recovered the drivers (controllers) of Android removed since the Linux kernel 2.6.33 -in spring 2010- and managed to put them back in the development branch of the Linux kernel 3.3. |
The idea is that Linux 3.3 will be able to boot to an Android device without the need for patches, although not all Android patches will automatically move to the main development branch. For example, the code for WakeLock, which helps the batteries of Android devices last longer, will not be included.
The Linux Foundation's Consumer Electronics group, which is part of the Linux Foundation, along with the Linaro group and several independent developers, are working on this project together with Greg Kroah-Hartman.
Tim Bird, President of Architecture Group, has launched the Android Mailing project with the aim of coordinating work on integrating Android features into the Linux kernel.
