Arch Linux

The September 2018 build of the popular Arch Linux is here and it's the first to bring Linux Kernel 4.18 underhood.

Arch Linux 2018.09.01 has arrived this week and is the first 'snapshot'which updates the kernel packages, the kernel of the Linux operating system, to the latest and most advanced version, linux kernel 4.18.

Last month's build, Arch Linux 2018.09.01, was still using Linux Kernel 4.17.11 and since version 4.18 arrived two weeks ago, on August 12, 2018, it has been decided to include it in this month's build. It should be remembered that Linux Kernel 4.17 series has reached the end of its cycle and that helped decide the change.

Linux Kernel 4.18 arrives with fix for Specter vulnerability, this time for variants 1 and 2 on 32-bit ARM architectures and Specter variant 4 on ARM64 (AArch64) and ARMv8 architectures.

In addition, it brings a runtime compiler for eBPF programs in the 32-bit (x86) architecture and adds official support for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 mobile processor with ARM architecture.

Besides Linux Kernel 4.18.5, ISO Arch Linux 2018.09.01 also incorporates software updates and security fixes released through the official repository throughout the month.

As is customary with snapshot releases, Arch Linux 2018.09.01 is ready to install on any machine. Installing it from scratch will save you from downloading the hundreds of updates after installing the system, Arch Linux 2018.09.01 is fully updated until next month.

Arch Linux follows the release form called "rolling release”, So everyone who has the system installed can update using a single command in the terminal, sudo pacman –Syu.

You can download Arch Linux 2018.09.01 from the Official website and transfer it to a disk or USB.
