The most anticipated Linux projects of the year

The result of the survey of the month yields unsurprising results: Ubuntu 10.10, Firefox 4 and Steam the most anticipated projects.

Ubuntu 10.10, 150 votes (20.69%)
Firefox 4, 126 votes (17.38%)
Steam for Linux, 105 votes (14.48%)
GIMP 2.8 (with single window mode), 103 votes (14.21%)
Chrome OS, 76 votes (10.48%)
Gnome Shell, 54 votes (7.45%)
Video Lan Movie Creator (VLMC), 49 votes (6.76%)
Other, 43 votes (5.93%)
uTorrent for Linux, 19 votes (2.62%)

The results, nothing surprising. The only fact that may come as a surprise to some is the fact that uTorrent appears in the last place. Of course, there are already very good BitTorrent clients available for Linux.

It doesn't surprise me that the Linux version of Utorrent is not a long-awaited thing. With options such as Ktorrent, Transmission and Deluge, I think that this need is very well satisfied today. At least I don't need it, and I'm a Heavy Torrents User! 🙂
Personally I would like to see a more streamlined version of Firefox for Linux soon, it has been a long time ago. Although FF is still my default browser and the one I use the most for its functionalities, when I want to navigate fast I turn to Chromium.
Greetings and congratulations for the Blog. I visit it frequently and always find some interesting information.

I am of the same opinion: if there are already native tools and solutions for Linux that are very good, why wait for the versioning?

FF is powerful but as you say it has already become slow ... it is a battleship (powerful, stable and multi-purpose and slow) but in a browser you expect an F1 😀

Thank you for commenting and sharing your opinion.
I agree with everything you say.
    A big hug! Cheers! Paul.

I miss the rtorrent for terminal xD
I agree that it is in last place

I am surprised that ubuntu is the first, 10.04 came out recently, being LTS. I understand that they are going to bring us new things for 10.10, but enough to be in first place?
I prefer steam to see if it attracts games (although I am not much into playing, but it is one less excuse that others will have to spend xD) or even more the gimp of a single window: D, that is useful to me

    regards!

Yes it's correct. Ubuntu might not have been in the first place, right?
    Hug! Paul.

It was to be expected, Ubuntu is usually the most expected, although we have versions every 6 months, and Steam would be the best, but Valve already said that for now nothing.

It seems to me that gnome shell and more specifically gnome 3 should be the most expected, for no one is a secret that the current gtk libraries are not up to the QT, clarifying that I only mean the libraries not KDE in specific, what I am clear about is that gtk 3 is going to extensively renew the gnome environment and that seems positive to me = D .... on the other hand, we must not be ungrateful with Firefox, it has given us a browser for linux for a long time, that's why I wish him the best, however his current policies or decisions have not pleased me, they are leaving the project for GNU / Linux relegated, while firefox 4 for windows not only integrates perfectly with aero, but also its efficiency improvement is remarkable, firefox is supposed to support opensource, but it doesn't seem like, while lately I applaud google for its decisions, we have products to match, like google chrome, picassa, video calls on google talk, google earth in short, firefox wake up because ue google chrome is taking hold ... greetings
