The new features included in Fedora 13

With the imminent release of Ubuntu and the recent confirmation that the release of Fedora will be delayed a week, many are wondering what will be the features included in the most widely used version of Linux.

Automatic Print Driver Installation: packages like gutenprint-cups, hpijs, and pbm2l2030 should be installed on demand when the hardware required by the drivers is detected.

Color Management: GNOME Color Manager is a session framework that makes it easy to handle, install, and generate color profiles on the GNOME desktop

Easy Python Debugging: the gdb debugger has been extended so that it can communicate detailed information about the internals of the Python 2 and Python 3 runtimes

3D Support: In Fedora 12 experimental support for 3D via the mesa-dri-drivers-experimental package for ATI cards was made available and has been extended in Fedora 13 to support systems via the Nvidia Nouveau driver.

KDE Pulse Audio Integration: Fedora 13 offers better PulseAudio integration in Phonon KDE and KMix

Network Manager Bluetooth DUN: NetworkManager now supports easy-to-use Bluetooth Dial-Up Networking (DUN) support.

It will include Gnome 2.30 worth noting.

Network Manager Mobile Status: The NetworkManager applet shows current signal strength, cellular technology (GPRS / EDGE / UMTS / HSPA or 1x / EVDO etc), and roaming status while connected to cards where this functionality is supported.

Fedora 13 will have KDE SC 4.4, GNOME 2.30, NFSv4 support, RPM 4.8, support for both Python 3 and Python 2.x, OpenOffice.org 3.2.0, the Sugar 0.88 desktop (famous for its integration into the XO laptops of the One Laptop Per Child project), Firefox 3.6.2 and Upstart 0.6.0.

Don't worry if you have Apple products….

The new Apple iPod, iPod Touch and iPhone models are compatible with some of the photo and music management programs.
