A new update was recently released of the official operating system of our favorite pocket computer "Raspberry Pi". For those of you who are still unaware of the system that was designed for this computer, I can tell you a little about it.

Raspbian is a free Debian-based operating system, which is optimized to be used with the Raspberry Pi hardware, this small device has an armhf architecture processor.

Raspbian comes with more than 35,000 software packages or pre-compiled software, which It is packaged in a format to facilitate installation on the Raspberry Pi.

Although Debian provides a version for the ARM architecture, it only supports the later version of the Raspberry Pi (that is, the ARMv7-A core processor and later, compared to the ARMv6 core processor of the Raspberry Pi).

This new release from Raspbian comes with several latest updates and improvements of which we can find that this new update arrives with Linux Kernel 4.14.71 (version with long-term support).

Another important point that we can highlight about this version of Raspbian is that comes with support for PoE Rashberry Pi HAT (Power over Ethernet) from the Raspberry Pi Foundation, of which we already talked here on the blog, about a small problem that occurred a few weeks ago with this one.

This new Raspbian update also updates the system startup wizard by implementing for support for mapping keyboard layouts by country.

In addition, adds a new option to use the US keyboard layout. preferably the country-specific option, the ability to display the IP address of the equipment on the first page, and support for testing Wi-Fi networks.

Also, the Raspbian startup wizard now allows users to install language packs for LibreOffice and other applications open source, as well as to offer greatly improved keyboard navigation.

For completeness, the Raspberry Pi startup wizard and setup now work correctly with passwords that contain shell characters.

About the new Raspbian features

Among other notable improvements included in the new Raspbian version, we can mention the support for the network plugin to hide Wi-Fi passwords by default, support for the battery indicator plugin to handle Raspberry Pitop hardware monitor failures and support for dhcpcd, to work with 3G devices.
