Just over a week ago the new version of Recalbox was launched 18.06.27/XNUMX/XNUMX which through a statement on your official project blog Recalbox developers announced the availability of this new version.

The mention of Recalbox has already been made here on the blog on more than one occasion, but for those who do not know this Linux distribution yet lIt is I can say that it is a free and open source GNU / Linux system created by the Recalbox project this offers a wide selection of game consoles and systems.

From the first arcade systems to the NES, MEGADRIVE / GENESIS and even 32-bit platforms, such as the PlayStation, it also has Kodi so you can also enjoy multimedia content in this distribution.

Unlike the Linux distributions we usually use, Recalbox is aimed at multimedia entertainment and turning your computer into an entertainment center.

The Recalbox project was originally oriented and directed to the Raspberry Pi device, but it also has a PC version.

Between the main emulators that we can find in this distribution are: Atari 2600, Atari 7800, NES, Game Boy, Game Boy color, Game Boy Advance, Super Nintendo, Famicom Disk System, Master System, Megadrive (Genesis), Gamegear, Game and Watch, Lynx, NeoGeo, NeoGeo Pocket, FBA ( some ROMs), iMame4all (some ROMs), PCEngine, Supergrafx, Amstrad CPC, MSX1 / 2, ZX Spectrum, PSX, Sega Cd, Sega 32X, Sega SG1000, Playstation, ScummVM, Vectrex, VirtualBoy and Wonderswan.

About the new version of Recalbox

In this new edition of Recalbox 18.06.27, the EASports intro has been added to the system on the occasion of the Soccer World Cup in Russia.

We can also highlight that the Recalbox developers made a lot of effort in the development of this new version because they have included a new feature that more than one user of the distribution will like.

New online game feature

The new feature is Netplay which integrate Retroarch to the system and with this feature you can play your retro games online and unlock achievements as do current video game consoles.

This new feature you can enable it in "Menu> Game Settings> Netplay Settings" From here, you can enable and disable Netplay, configure your Netplay username, choose a port.

You can also add CRC32 hash to your game list to get a better match in the Netplay lobby.

Netplay has a GUI for client mode and an option to boot as hostWith this you will be able to generate a list of available titles and with support to be able to use this function.

When executing this GUI it will show us different data of which we find:

  • Username (with a small icon if it is a game launched from Recalbox)
  • Country
  • Hash match (if you have the same ROM with the same hash in your games)
  • file match
  • Core
  • Connection latency and other information

Changes in Recalbox

Within of the other changes that we can find in this new version we can highlight, la modification of the clock, now it is not limited to a local time but it was configured with GTM time.

As well I know better the process of updating and selection of emulators within the system this avoids starting the graphical user interface and displaying the default values.

Finally, it can also be noted that since this new version Recalbox will show the games contained within a folder as one more title and not as a folder, with this, navigation between them is streamlined and avoid being entered between folders to run the game.

As well added the function "Refresh game list" which you can use directly from the system menu.

I think the blog is already very inactive by users.
Thanks for the information, do you know if it can be updated directly without reinstalling? I have the previous version of recallbox, once I updated but I don't really understand how updates are handled on that system.

Hello, in the new version, I can't assign a song to each emulator like in previous versions… .wow shit…. Could you help me and tell me how to edit the system files to be able to do so? (Each song with its corresponding emulator is ideal)

      Hello good day.
Are you putting them in ogg format with the correct bitrate?
