The Unarchiver is a file extraction tool that supports a wide variety of compression formats, and of course, the .rar is included.
What's the difference with unrar? The Unarchiver performs all its functions completely and entirely free of charge. It's very simple to use; it only requires two commands:
- laser List the contents of a file. Example: lsar .rar
- unar Extract the contents of a file. Example: join .rar
For now, it's only available in the Debian Sid repositories . If you use it, you can install it with the command:
$ sudo aptitude install theunarchiver
