Tor Browser Bundle or how to browse anonymously

El Tor Browser Bundle is a package offered by TOR (The Onion Router) that integrates everything that is needed to surf manner anonymous In Internet. It comes in the same package (totally portable) Tor, Vidalia and Firefox, so we will not have to configure each software separately, simply extract the package and run the script.

We can download the «Tor Browser Bundle» directly from the official project page:

Once downloaded, unzip the package and run the script called "start-tor-browser"

Some recommendations to keep in mind:

1.- For Tor to run correctly, the files must belong to the user running the script, and even if we are root, it will not work; so assign an owner to the directory recursively.

chown -R / home / tor-browser_es /

2.- Tor will connect by default to many nodes, including nodes that belong to countries we don't want to connect to. Given the case that we want to connect only to the United States, we can add the following node exclusion to the end of the tor / browser_es / Data / Tor / torrc file:

ExcludeNodes {be}, {pl}, {ca}, {za}, {vn}, {uz}, {ua}, {tw}, {tr}, {th}, {sk}, {sg}, { se}, {sd}, {sa}, {ru}, {ro}, {pt}, {ph}, {pa}, {nz}, {np}, {no}, {my}, {mx} , {md}, {lv}, {lu}, {kr}, {jp}, {it}, {ir}, {il}, {ie}, {id}, {hr}, {hk}, { gr}, {gi}, {gb}, {fi}, {es}, {ee}, {dk}, {cz}, {cy}, {cr}, {co}, {cn}, {cl} , {ci}, {ch}, {by}, {br}, {bg}, {au}, {at}, {ar}, {aq}, {ao}, {ae}, {nl}, { de}, {fr}

Please someone who knows the subject: I get this when running the script. Qt: Session management error: None of the authentication protocols specified are supported.

    Cannot access Data / Tor / port.conf

    any ideas?

    Thank you

I know it doesn't seem to be the cause of the problem (based on the error message), but ...
Did you try running the script using sudo?
    Cheers! Paul.

  5.   kuroo98 said

Yes it is not a matter of sudo. Do you know if you have to put some data by hand in the browser?

  6.   Let's use Linux said

It worked for me well without "putting my hand", but maybe you have to do something on your computer ... I really don't know. : S

Thank you very much for this entry, the truth is that I am going to test it for the issue of multisession in firefox. Although I imagine that the use of TAILS (http://tails.boum.org/) under a virtual machine.

What has surprised me (probably because of my ignorance) is that why there are nodes that go to countries that we should not connect (I imagine because they must be controlled nodes or similar), but above all, how do you advise connecting to nodes in the US, which I believe that it is the country that we all distrust the most in terms of privacy. If you could comment on your point of view, I would appreciate it, since it is an issue that unfortunately seems more and more essential to me.

Many people prefer to connect to the servers in the United States because it is assumed that from there you can see all the pages without filter. The issue of privacy, although related, is different.

Ah, thank you very much for your quick reply. 🙂

Goodnight! One question: TOR can only be used with firefox or is it possible to use it with other programs?

  11.   NRZ said

It can be used with other programs, but it is recommended to use it with firefox, since the fox is not said to be the most secure browser just because. But it can also be used with chrome and other browsers, as well as with instant messaging clients (IM), IRC, SSH clients, email, etc.

You can find numerous tutorials in your favorite search engine.

There is some controversy with the issue of security. It is an anonymous network, which is not 100% secure. Some controlled nodes can make that if you use a password to log into a service, you remain anonymous, but the login data can be intercepted by those responsible for the node where you are connected.

I forgot to tell you that it is vidalia that gives me the message that I do not have soketcontrol.
