UberStudent is a Debian-based distribution geared toward the upper-secondary or upper-secondary student, as well as anyone who wants to learn to excel in the tasks and habits of high-achieving students, researchers, and other knowledge workers.
This version 1.0 has a great variety of software:
- Zotero: Extension for Firefox that collects, organizes and cites the material or sources of information that you find on the web.
- Anky: It allows creating mnemonic files, and sharing them to "facilitate collective knowledge".
- GoldenDict: A search resource for media such as Wikipedia, Wiktionary, and Forvo.
- topshelf: access to a catalog of books and other literary resources (from comics to articles and summaries).
- Hamster: for time planning.
- Buddy: A simple personal finance manager.
- Posterazor: to easily create large print assets.
- Graphics tools such as: Pinta, Scribus, Gimp, Inkscape, Shotwell, OpenClip Art.
- DJL GameManager: as a free games manager.
- Audacious as an audio player, Skype or Whatsapp for PC-to-PC calls, Pidgin as an instant messenger.
- Mozilla Prism for web applications.
- Moodle as a free virtual educational environment.
With the promise of always being free, UberStudent is a good alternative for students and why not teachers who want an alternative to other proprietary applications.
