Wayland 1.16 released with some updates

The graphical X server that has lived with us for so long in Unix environments has interesting alternatives such as Wayland. For those unfamiliar with the project, Wayland is a graphical server / library protocol that aims to replace the old and complex X to work better in modern desktop environments, since it is a modern implementation compared to X as it was also intended be the battered Mir. It works on GNU / Linux distributions and it is already working on some distros as you may have noticed ...

Well now Jonas Ådahl, one of the developers of the project has announced that the new version Wayland 1.16 is already released, which is not a huge update, but it does include some small improvements compared to the previous version. That means one more step in the development of this collection of protocols (stable and unstable) that intends to become the de facto system for modern GNU / Linux systems and displace X once and for all.

Now, in Wayland 1.16 we will find a updated version unstable text protocol, stable XDG-Shell protocol improvements, XDG-Output changes, and some other improvements. As I have said, there are not too many improvements included or as great as some are expected, but they are always welcome and will help to do a little better work with the graphical environments that support KDE Plasma, GNOME, etc.

By the way, if you did not know, Wayland can be compatible with apps written specifically to work on X, for this it was created xwayland. In other words, it is somewhat similar to the way in which apps written for environments based on the X-Window System run on a native Apple macOS graphics system.
