We are special

All user of GNU / Linux You should stand in front of the mirror and without narcissistic biases, regardless of physique or appearance, say to yourself: I am special.

Are you a user of GNU / Linux? Look out your window, your balcony or just go outside and imagine how many people out there are unaware of the pleasure that you feel and enjoy so much. Imagine how many people are subjected to a slavery from which you are completely free.

Maybe it seems weird, but I really enjoy that feeling that although many think that I only have a black console full of lyrics, I can do the same as the rest, even, sometimes much better: communicate, listen to music, surf the Internet , or exchange with anyone else no matter what OS you use.

I feel good knowing that I use a SO that when it has an error it tells me what it is and it does not take me a little sign asking me to contact technical support and show the error: 0x022wq0001220. I feel special because I have the option to choose, to change, to modify, to toast, to give away, to share.

I really enjoy knowing that I use an OS that invites me to learn, to use it, to be a better computer scientist And why not? Better person. It feels good to know that in some way I am different, that I did not let myself be trapped by those monopolists and their canons that they strive to become a standard.

That is why we are special, we will be special, you, me, and everyone who embraces the Technological Freedom, the Freedom that only GNU / Linux knows how to offer.

Thank you 🙂 these last few days thanks to the strong marketing they have, they have practically seduced me, but post like these make me remember my origins and why I am here, with Free Software.

Marketing? 😕 I didn't know we were good at it, I think I'll leave this world and go to the business sector hahahaha ..

Nothing serious, thank you very much ..

Several months ago in http://elavdeveloper.wordpress.com/2011/02/19/1900/ I gave you my opinion on something related to this post, I think that now I could not add much more about it. Although that time I think I went too long with my comment, now I just want to reproduce a part of what I said:

«I think it would not be unreasonable to think that if the users of the different linux distros have something in common, it is that being different is something valuable and somehow we identify with an OS that represents a type of minority and, in that sense, represents to something other than what is most prevalent. But I also believe that not everyone thinks of "being different" in the same way. Some think that they are smarter for using Linux, others think that they are more supportive for using Linux and free software, others perhaps think that they are extravagant or that they are rebellious, or rebellious or perhaps that by using something that most do not, that it allows them to be authentic or simply more aware of their choices, and surely a long etcetera. I think most Linux users say, "the world requires me to use win or mac, but I am capable of making another decision and feeling more satisfied that way." But at the same time, not all users of this OS have the same reasons for making that decision, nor does being or feeling different mean the same thing.

    regards

    And why not? Better person

Man is like everything, there are bastard linuxers and nice linuxers

I feel good knowing that I use an OS that when it has an error tells me what it is and does not take out a little sign asking me to contact technical support and show the error: 0x022wq0001220

That is good, when there is an error you investigate about it and with the terminal it is solved for almost always not appearing again

I totally agree with you, Courage, although I am not an advanced user like you. Do you remember me? The one who complained in an article because the steps were not explained well, heh heh.

    I totally agree.
In these 5 and a half years that I have been in the world and learned to value some things more, not to mention that in a single year I learned more than in many with Windows (partly thanks to a magazine that released a series of Ubuntu tutorials and then a linux magazine that has disappeared unfortunately for me).

    1.    elav <° Linux said

      What Magazines are they? 😕

      1.    They are Link said

The first one I can't quite remember its name, but it's more about Windows (Computer & Internet I think) and the other was All Linux, I bought it through Linux + and Linux Magazine use too much technical language and I don't even know half of it, although at I follow the last one on Facebook to find out about little things

I learned a lot thanks to magazines too, Begins and Papirux were the ostia, a real pity that they were abandoned 🙁

          1.    Courage said

No, it's not exaggerated haha If I start to speak Argentine, I don't think I'll screw it up so much hahaha.

Seriously, it is very ugly and also I do not think that much HOYGAN is good for the blog by the admins

HAHAHAHA yes, I understand you, only the spell checker didn't tell me it was wrong either, that's why I put it like that.
And nah, both elav and I do, we create the site and manage it, but we are not better than anyone for that ... we are the same as any reader who may have the site, we do not believe we are gurus or super-important for this 😀

It is true that we must maintain a good spelling, but not to manage the site, but simply to give a good presence, I don't know ... seriousness could be called, because it is no secret that if X user writes barbarities, what they say will not be taken in account 😉

More than once I also stop, look at people and say. There they are with sos netbooks, notebooks, pc, all of high technology, will they know that there is another reality outside of windows? Will they know that it is possible to stop fighting with viruses and other herbs? Will you know how beautiful it is to learn to hand-sort every little thing that the OS tells you that is wrong? Will they know that I fix their compus with the same OS with which I am writing this now? haha
It is very nice to feel so different.
Another beautiful thing is to see the effect that the compiz of the rain makes when it falls on my desk. Beautiful !!! 😉

Hello, I am a new user of GNU / LINUX, this blog seems great to me, I like to blog and read the comments of people who have more experience using Linux, like them I have really enjoyed having left Windows completely, and experiencing the satisfaction to install Ubuntu, Fedora and Lubuntu to my three machines with the help of the Linux community, without a doubt that one feels special for having escaped the computer blindness to which Microsoft subjects people with its monopolistic practices; And from all the dozens of blogs that I have read I can deduce that the Linux community really are (as a whole) special people: more intelligent, supportive, extravagant, rebellious, rebellious, authentic and aware of their choices regardless of the reason that they are led to opt for free software. Excellent, good comments on this blog, and the topic goes without saying great.

    Hello,

Currently I am migrating to Linux with Fedora 16, before, some time ago I had tried other distros that did not satisfy me for reasons of driver and design programs and 3d ... Now with Gnome 3 I feel comfortable (except for details) I perish an excellent desk and an interesting creative proposal that I will support.

    But, I have to give my frank opinion about it;

They say a lot about the literal Freedom of Linux ... now I wonder what is freedom? If I am tied to an 80Gb home / and I want to use my 1.5Tb hard drive and I cannot assign Home to this disk unless I format and reinstall all the programs, which I cannot assign to the windows 7 style libraries and create a path for it ... No! I have to format the disk to swear, before of course backing up 1.39Tb of information.

In a legal or anarchic way in windows you can have the software I need and the one I want ... in Linux (not yet), that doesn't let me be or feel free.

My days as a pseudo hacker passed years ago, what a common user of the graphic work order wants is accessibility. Why do I have to be compiling some programs? they are things that the great openSource family does not understand yet.

    regards

PS: One of my greatest joys when installing Fedora 16 was… that it recognized the network card and the genius table:) I… windows 7 does not do it by default.

      Welcome sanctux:
Seriously? Although I have never done it, I think that by changing the mount point in the file / etc / fstab, and copying each file and folder with its respective permission is enough. Or am I wrong? I do not think that the freedom that GNU / Linux offers can be questioned for this simple detail that you comment.

      regards

  16.   sanctum said

Thank you elav, I had not answered before because I was well informed of the matter ...

First things first, I am not questioning freedom because it cannot be done, I am sure that if ... I mean the high level that users have to have to be able to access these tools, which not everyone tolerates, 98% more or less.

    Now…

Impossible to change the ntfs format to axt4 without a very high risk (which I cannot run)

It is not possible for a common mortal to change home to another partition. only for advanced users and of course in a linux format. One option is LVM, but it also requires some knowledge.

The best option to expand home is LVM ... I do it that way, I use a 500Gb disk to install linux and I start to make backups on what fits me from the disks I have.

I free 700Gb of the large disk, I am going to partition, format in ext4 and expand the Home LVM, I copy what remains to me and definitely expand the entire disk…. at least i thought so

There is no natural tool to partition, this is the Gparte but it does not apply changes to the disk because it is dynamic.

Ok, I find out, I apply the NTFSresize, by making keys I partition it and mount it, I see it in partitioned linux, I see it in partitioned windows ... when I go to Gparter it does not recognize it ...

I investigate, there is a graphical tool for LVM that does not recognize the partition either.

By chance I found that I have to run chkdisk "from windows" and so gparter if it recognizes me to make the partition.

I do it and format in ext4 to go to the graphical LVM and extend the partition ...

He recognizes it and visually "it is not easy" as I imagined, I have to create everything the same instead of writing, I click on it, but it is better ...

now comes the best ... it begins to extend the home but does not show any type of loader only an empty window, after a while a popup tells me that home is ready, now I close the program and it gives me an error when closing it ... when I go to the hard disk, I only extended home 400Gb, I still need 300Gb

And that's where I am, well, I've done all the backup and I'm going to format the other part to extend the entire volume.

Now you understand me? It is not something insignificant and it is not something that anyone would do, that's why Linux loses people and will continue to be for a small group of 1 or 2% of people until they start to face the interface with the user.

    mmmh ...

    According to my experience:

-First of all we are all human beings and in our individuality is the beauty of life

-Second, just as we share a taste for computing, GNU / Linux and free software, there are people who like other things (arts or disciplines) in which they are good and many of these attract us (although we do not practice them) it is the father (good) of life.

What I hope to agree with you and what we should be present with great pride is:

The Community that is created around free software, that is supported in many ways, that shares, that does not let knowledge stand still, that defends itself and seeks solutions, I have not seen another community (medical, commercial, engineering , among other careers or subjects) that share this philosophy, I congratulate you all for living this type of society and I urge you to continue sharing your knowledge and being good with newbies! 😉

    Warm regards (it's very hot: S) !!
