What's New in Fedora 24

We already have with us Fedora 24, one of the preferred distro in the Linux community.

You can now update your system if you wish. For this you need the DNF update plugin; To install this plugin open the terminal and type the following command:

$ sudo dnf install dnf-plugin-system-upgrade

This is the recommended way to make the process easier, remember that Before executing the update process, you must have version 23 of the distro and make the relevant backup copies. With the DNF plugin installed, and the relevant backups made, you can run the update without any problem. To do this, enter the following command in the terminal:

$ sudo dnf system-upgrade download --releasever=24

Once this is done, the system will start the necessary downloads to start the update. If you find some difficulties with this process, either for some packages, you can add the flag allowerasing  to the command entered previously, this to eliminate those packages that may be interfering with the process. Finally, and once the download plus the updates is done, the system will restart. For this, type the following command:

$ sudo dnf system-upgrade reboot

The system then reboots to the current kernel installed for Fedora version 23, with updates subsequently appearing on the kernel selection screen. At the end of the process the system will be ready with all the components of Fedora 24. Remember that there may be problems with updates from installed third-party repositories, ideally disable them to run the update.

Improvements and new features.

Among the news for this version of Fedora we find  GNOME 3.20, which has many improvements: the search interface is improved, we also found a device that facilitates the input and configuration of the printer. There are direct access windows to some music controls and keyboard commands.

We also have the (expected) successor to X.org, Wayland; a last generation graphical interface manager. Although it is not the default manager, it will be available for testing by users and formally included in the next version of Fedora.

Another improvement was for Fedora 24Server, which has become more agile and modular. Inside it we have FreeIPA; designed to improve information management with regard to security. This new version brought with it numerous improvements in the management of replication technology. Among other things, there was also the elimination of some packages considered as not very useful, plus an installer with less impact on system resources.

FedoraCloud it is developed as a specialized system in container applications. Through them we find OpenShift Origin; a platform that serves as a system that goes around Kubernetes and allows the development of applications oriented in the construction of containers and the management of them. In Fedora, developers will have at their disposal a layered imaging service, with tools implemented for the contributors of the distro, in order to crear and send container layered images in Fedora 25.

On the other hand we also find the Fedora Spins and Labs. These are alternate versions of the system that offer custom groups of software, plus other desktop environments. Fedora Spins, on the one hand, shows plasma from KDE, LXDE, Cinnamon, Xfce and Compiz-Mate, at the very base of the system.

In the case of Fedora Labs, there are collections of software for games and robotics. There is also a laboratory focused on astronomy, with specialized tools for this purpose.

Now for secondary architectures there is a simultaneous release system; with server edition for each of the architectures, in addition to the base cloud images that can work with Power64 and AArch64. These last two now have support for golang, mongodb y nodejs, in conjunction with architecture optimizations.

Images are also available for aARM architecture. With the different desktop options in the workstation edition, and even the server edition.

It is worth noting that if you want to stay updated on the correction of errors in Fedora 24, you can access the following link.

And if you want to contribute or contribute to the development of Fedora, you can go to the following website to request more information about it.

You only have Download and try this distro! Do not forget to tell us your experience!

    I have followed them for a long time but lately they have placed too much publicity that when entering the site the only thing that occurs to me is to close it.

    I updated from fedora 23 to 24 and without any problem, gnome improved a lot, I hope that the new functionality of jumping from one distro to another will go well when fedora 25 comes out and I think the blog is good with everything and its publicity, since it is necessary to keep it afloat and well it was something that in this blog was several articles about why they did not put advertising to maintain it and I continue to favor it.

    I was always a user of distros debs, Fedora is one of the giants and I wanted to give it a try on my new asus x555 laptop, everything installed well, and without problems. The issue is that I did not know how to start the wifi ... And the place to connect it, by cable, was very uncomfortable, so I did not know how to get my laptop's wifi to recognize me and end up restoring my Ubuntu 16.04 ... But I still I leave as gnome 3.20 and the performance of Fedora ... Only that problem with the recognition of my hardware.
