What are emblems and how can they optimize your work?

Does it sound familiar? Have you ever read that word and can't remember what it was about? Well, don't worry, there are few who know and use this great possibility that Nautilus offers us to easily identify folders and files without having to spend hours perplexing our tangled file structure without being able to find anything.

What is an emblem and what is it for?

If you are more or less verbose, you probably have all your documents and files organized in folders. Of course, as you accumulate files, you add folders. This makes your file structure increasingly complex, sometimes even to the point of not being able to find anything quickly.

You can think of emblems as marks that you can put on your folders to easily identify them. So, for example, you can put a special mark on the folder where you store your music, another mark on the folder where you keep your personal documents, another on the photos folder, and so on.

Let's look at an example:

As you can see, this does not replace the folder icon but allows you to put a small image on the upper right side to be able to identify it without having to read and decipher what it is. It is precisely studied that we recognize an image much faster than it takes us to read, in this case, the name of the folder; Not to mention that, for worse, the folder we are looking for will probably be found among thousands of other folders, so we will have to go through several others before finding our elusive folder.

Now, these emblems can also be applied any file. That is, it is not something exclusive for folders. Here the utility is the same. For example, in the case of the previous capture, I put an emblem with a little clock in the file slow usb.txt. That way, I'm reminding myself that I have to work with the contents of that file shortly. In short, each one has its "codes."

How to assign an emblem to a file or folder

I opened Nautilus and did the following:

  1. Select the item you want to add an emblem to.
  2. Right click on the file / folder, and choose Properties. Then the properties window for the element will be displayed.
  3. Click on the flap Emblems to display the Emblems tab section.
  4. Select the emblem to add to the item.
  5. Press Close to close the properties dialog.

How to create new emblems

      Parodri93 !!!

I am Spanish, and not to say what I really think of you, I will only say that you are a GREAT SHAME of a person, not just as a Spanish (if you are…)

The author taught me something that I was curious about, whether I particularly find it useful or not.

You define yourself with your enriching teachings. You are of great use and help to all humanity… You must be proud of your great brain and wisdom: I did not expect to find so much on a page that talks about emblems… Thank you, Parodri93.
