According to the Roadmap of the Xfce WikiVersion 4.12 of this excellent Desktop Environment should have been released on March 10 of this year or a week later, since we are still on time until the 17th or so.
Perhaps one of the most relevant novelties for this version is the incorporation of tabs in Thunar, and all the improvements it includes. I also find it very interesting that the terminal Xfce can be used in style Yakuake.
We already saw the new that this version brings in an excellent post written by Rayonant. We can go through one more time all that is coming for Xfce 4.12 en this link.
Waiting to see what happened ..
Regards!
I have been using it for almost a year in my header distribution (Xubuntu 12.04) and have only praise for this desktop environment. It presents the perfect balance between sobriety, practicality and elegance.
It is not the fastest, but it is fast.
It is not the prettiest, but it is pretty.
It is not the most stable, but it is very stable.
It is not the easiest to use, but it is still easy to use.
In short, you are right, it is a perfect balance, and the only one that I install as a desktop in business environments.
A query about XFCE, can it be installed on Kubuntu 12.10 64 bits, for alternative to KDE 4.10? Thank you
Yes of course .. you just have to install the xubuntu-desktop package
I'm going to prove it. Now I updated to the Kubuntu 13.04 Beta, very stable so far it recognized all the 12.10 configurations, I've only been testing for 2 days.
I use Mint in its XFCE flavor and I am delighted. However, on an extremely old machine I mounted Xubuntu and added the mintMenu to it. The thing looks very modern.
At this point I am not changing XFCE for anything.
XFCE 4.12 I am waiting for you.
I'm still waiting for it, although I don't know if I'll install it or not, the truth is I'm getting a little tired of the Xfce team not innovating at all, this is supposed to be the desktop environment that will occupy the space left by Gnome 2 but I do not see that they put much effort into achieving it ... it has taken about 1 year to release a new version whose changes are almost insignificant ... I hope not to offend anyone but that is my opinion.
This is because the number of people on the Xfce team cannot be compared to those on Gnome (with RedHat behind it) or KDE. There are only 4 main developers and around 10 active collaborators (which implies that not all of them are involved in code). For me it is incredible what they have done for Xfce 4.12, also remember that this is Free Software which means that they do this and They share it because they want without charging a single penny, that sometimes we forget ...
+100
It seems that as mentioned above they only make imperceptible updates but it is the most configurable desktop environment, I am currently on Fedora 18 with Xfce 4.10, and it goes fast, also with elementary and conky icons. Cheers
I am a lover of Xfce, I love it, but I do not agree with you .. it is not more configurable than KDE. Comparing it to the rest it may be (I have not tried E17) ..
Great news! I love xfce, what I need is the best desktop out there.
I'm looking forward to it (and I'm already testing half of the xD packages) the movement in the Git repository doesn't stop, so the announcement shouldn't take long!
The best desktop environment for limited computers.
Thanks for the info, in debian I'm still waiting for testing to be testing again and they go from 4.8 to 4.10 xD
time to time
: )
I don `t believe. Normally they have not met the deadlines, it is the desktop that I have used for several years and generally they have been characterized by not strictly meeting the dates to release the versions; also for version 4.12 versions pre1, pre2, ... etc. would be missing.
they already updated the roadmap. they are still in the development stage.
It seems to me that SoluOS with Consort written with Gtk 3.4 which mimics Gnome 2.
He's going to score an advantage over XFCE. If the SoluOS team achieves what it promises.
Of course if the SoluOS Consort consumes the same resources as XFCE.
I will have to test Consort and XFCE to see which desktop is lighter.
Waiting for it to come out, the truth is xfce in my opinion is the best desktop since it may not be the most configurable but it is fast, it may not be the fastest but it is very configurable.
As long as we do well with it, it is enough, we just have to wait. Cheers
Eager to install it.
One year later and they are still in the development phase ...: '(
