Just 3 days ago we were announcing that we needed donations to be able to pay for the Domain, VPS and Hosting of DesdeLinux.net for another year, an action that although some did not like it or even found it offensive?, I do not doubt for a second that it was the right decision.

DesdeLinux.net is no longer just the site of elav and KZKG^Gaara, two Cubans who decided for a 'crazy thing' to create another site on the internet and start sharing their knowledge, today DesdeLinux It is the portal for many of you to share your knowledge, experiences and experiences and for the rest of the world to read them. Nowadays DesdeLinux.net is no longer just any other site, thanks to you we are currently one of the most visited Linux sites in Spanish, with a larger audience, with excellent references.
When we requested donations we did not do it because elav or I wanted to buy a new house, if we requested donations it is only because DesdeLinux.net cannot be funded by these two Cubans who suffer from geographical fatalism, because we need the help of our community, our readers to pay for the site and other services that are under this domain.
That is why I give you the thanks to all of you, because thanks to your contributions we have managed to reach the amount of money necessary to pay for Domain, SharedHosting and VPS.
Right now there is 280 USD in our account, and here is the approximate breakdown:
- 38 USD that we had saved from last year, money that we “left over” from past donations.
- 52 USD from an arrangement / business I made a few weeks ago online.
- 200 USD donated by you, our readers, our community.
We do not want to say the name of each person who helped us by donating something because I personally think it could generate conflicts. Users who donated less than others might feel uncomfortable, sad, or just plain upset, this is not the goal, not nearly what we want (in fact, at this moment I am trying to respond personally to each one of you who helped us with a donation, in order to thank you 'personally' for your valuable help.).
However, we are infinitely grateful to all of you ... to those who donated regardless of the amount, it does not matter if it was € 100 or € 5, regardless of the amount we are very, very grateful, because thanks to you it was possible to pay services for another year. We thank the same to all those who for some reason or another could not donate, not everything is always the money, the support, the advice and the dissemination of the article through Twitter or other means is also very important, as well as we thank everyone Those who could not or did not want to donate are our readers and for that we thank them.
Money is not our reason for being, from the beginning we want to share our knowledge, we want to give back even a little to the global community that has contributed so much to us, but unfortunately in this world money is something necessary for almost everything, and DesdeLinux It is no exception.
Many of you mentioned the possibility or option of placing advertising on DesdeLinux and yes friends, it is an option but one that I personally do not find entirely pleasant. I put myself in the shoes of our readers and ask myself, would I like to see advertising in DesdeLinux when I read articles? …my mental response is always a resounding No, which is why we have always preferred not to advertise and simply request donations when required, and it only takes once a year, honestly ... I don't think this can seem blatant, degrading or insulting to our readers.
For this reason, I thank all of you again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you all very much for being part of DesdeLinux, for feeling it yours…
We are still open to donations, any of you who wish to contribute to DesdeLinux You can do it and we will thank you infinitely too. As you could see in the breakdown I gave you, almost $40 is money that we had saved from last year, so any donation you make in the next few days or months will stay there, saved until next year when we will need that money to return a once again to pay the servers.

Well, the advertising thing does not seem like a bad idea to me as long as it was about technological things (cell phones, computers, and things like that) since they go hand in hand with many things that we see here ... some links to a launch of some phone ( many of us hope Jolla and FirefoxOS)…

The domain / hosting has to be paid if you want a minimum quality. If the authors can't afford it, then let the community help a little, that's what a community is for.
Then compared to the option of advertising there is no color. Advertising is a perversion that has the network made cisco. All full of noisy banners, moving ads that annoy when reading, windows that pop without touching anything, ads before the videos, wasted bandwidth…. Lots of inconveniences.

Be a little late on the subject. I am glad that they have resolved this economic issue for now (too bad money rules society). My regret is not being able to help. Here in Argentina it is quite complicated to do paperwork with dollars or euros and it is also complicated for me with the use of Paypal. But as soon as I can, I will collaborate even if it is for next year.
