How To Fedora: Install Audio / Video Codecs and DVD Support

By default our beloved distro does not install the audio and video codecs for licensing reasons :(, but do not despair that here is the solution:

Install audio / video codecs

For this, we only need:

Add the repositories RPMFusion

later, we installed to Gnome (GTK):

sudo yum install gstreamer-plugins-bad gstreamer-plugins-bad-free-extras gstreamer-plugins-bad-nonfree gstreamer-plugins-ugly gstreamer-ffmpeg libdvdread libdvdnav gstreamer-plugins-good lsdvd libdvbpsi ffmpeg ffmpeg-libs gstreamer-ffmpeg libmatroska xvidcore xine-lib-extras-freeworld

For KDE would:

sudo yum install xine-lib-extras xine-lib-extras-freeworld k3b-extras-freeworld

Install support for DVD's

We access as root:

su -

I have installed the package according to our architecture.

For 32-bit computers:

rpm -ivh http://rpm.livna.org/repo/17/i386/libdvdcss-1.2.10-1.i386.rpm

For 64-bit computers:

rpm -ivh http://rpm.livna.org/repo/17/x86_64/libdvdcss-1.2.10-1.x86_64.rpm

Now if nothing stops you to listen and "see" some metal XD.

hey very good ... tremendous material

I recommend putting how to install "Sublime Text2, ArgoUML, XAMPP, UNetbootin, Jdowloader, Skype" in Fedora ...

If you tell me how to install this in 48 hours I install Fedora 17 xD

    1.    perseus said

XD, UNetbootin come in the official repos, the other programs could be installed with the .rpm files, it would be very strange if they were not found, as for Skype, I know that it can be installed with an installation script (I don't quite remember if it is easylife or another), which I will discuss in a future post.

      Cheers ;).

      1.    Juan Carlos said

For Sublime Text2 you can add the repo for Fedora; ArgoUML only saw it for Debian; XAMPP is installed from the console after unzipping (it is not * rpm); the Jdownloader, there is a Linux Music 3.0 user who took the Mandriva rpm and packaged it for Fedora; is here: http://www.mediafire.com/?2xmykn3ayrchtzf (thanks Tobal); Skype has an rpm for Fedora; but you have to install several libraries for it to work; such as: libXv.i686 libXScrnSaver.i686 qt.i686 qt-x11.i686 pulseaudio-libs.i686 pulseaudio-libs-glib2.i686 alsa-plugins-pulseaudio.i686.

How great, how I miss you Fedora!

        regards

        it's true 🙁

I am already preparing to travel the grounds of Fedora very soon

Learn to use Ubuntu's dad (literally) ... Debian, not bad at all 😉
One who uses it tells you ... haha

          1.    jamin samuel said

I already use it ... and it seems good to me .. what strikes me is the slowness of the grandmother who handles Debian .. Maybe Solus will end up satiating me but in the meantime I will try Fedora that is always up to date with the packages (already It's an old topic that you don't need to review) xD

Hello I have 5 days of having dabbled in LINUX and I did it with FEDORA 17. They think it is a good system or so to speak. quite complete?

of course it's killing me right now how to install programs that run under windows and do it in linux all by an accounting program called quickbook and a rypnivil to go to mp3

Right now the challenge is that the installation of the programs and then the surrond sound that the windows media player 11 and 12 has or is it that in LINUX it does not have those sounds and only sharp or fine sounds?

but in general terms I like FEDORA I mean LINUX I like the challenge of new things and with windows versions I do not find many things that challenge me. and here yes.

Excuse me, make sure I install and uninstall what you mention and it caused me problems since it does not allow me to see all the letters of the graphic mode and neither the images, could you please help them so that the letters of the graphic mode appear again as well as the images .

I am installing Fedora 12 on a 64 bit server which does not come with a sound card, I have purchased a pci sound blaster 5.1 x-f1, the system detects the card but when I want to make it work with music, for example, nothing is heard. Do I have to do anything else to hear the sound?

    a horror

How can it be so difficult? At least for me. The same about the sound of the hdmi.

    A shame about the patents.

    Good blog. Greetings from Argentina
