How To Fedora: Install Windows Fonts

In this how To We will see how to install the fonts: Arial. Comic Sans, New times roman, among others, easily, simply and thanks to the following script. Let's get started :).

We download the script from the author's page:

wget "http://blog.andreas-haerter.com/_export/code/2011/07/01/install-msttcorefonts-fedora.sh?codeblock=1" -O "/tmp/install-msttcorefonts-fedora.sh"

We give it execution permissions:

chmod a+rx "/tmp/install-msttcorefonts-fedora.sh"

We run the script:

su -c "/tmp/install-msttcorefonts-fedora.sh"

At the end of the installation it will ask you to restart your computer, I comment to avoid disasters XD. If anyone wants to add the Windows Vista fonts (gauges), take advantage of the following post: Add fonts to your Linux (GoogleWebFonts, UbuntuFonts, VistaFonts)

There is perseo this way if I like it 😀

once this is installed, it would be necessary to test if the fonts also apply to google chrome and chromium.

    1.    perseus said

Yes bro, yes they are activated by default, at least in chromium 😉

      1.    jamin samuel said

well that is real news .. ahaha if it works in chromium it also works in chrome

        I think I'll try again ^ _ ^

there were people who told me to install from a Live CD and not from a DVD.

I also have problems with the dvd in the rc, I have not had time to test them in the final version 🙁

Perseus ... I'm in fedora .. I did everything that the post indicates

but neither chromium nor google chrome show the content in Arial font 🙁

I have not done sudo yum update yet ..

does that have something to do with it?

      1.    perseus said

I very much doubt that updating your system has something to do with it, although it is recommended: P.

Your case is very rare, I think I remember that before trying this method, you had done it differently, could you tell me how you did it?

I send you a capture so you can see that it is not a story XD

if I also select all the boxes in Arial 🙂

but it does not look like in ubuntu .. the content of the web is not shown in Arial font ..

the old way I did it was by downloading the msttcore-fonts package

I installed them & my Fedora 3.4 gnome 17 never started again, it only started as far as the plymouth loads & then it would go black & it didn't show me how to log in 🙁

How about bro, you can try the following:

Start Fedora and when the black screen appears, press Ctrl + Alt + F2 so that you have access to the "terminal" (otherwise you can do the same key combination substituting F2 for F3, F4, etc).

If you can, enter your user password and type the following:

      startx

By doing this 3 things can happen:

1.- Access the graphical environment (which I think would be unlikely but better to try :)).

The other two options will cause an error message to appear, with the following options:

2.- That it indicates that there is an error in the xorg.conf file

3.- That it indicates that there is an error in the xorg.conf file and something like: «remove /tmp/.X0-lock» appears

(I am abusing my memory: P).

How to solve situation number 2:

      Writes:

      su -

      You enter the root password

      Run:

      Xorg -configure

This allows you to create a new configuration file Xorg.conf.new, we replace the old file with this newly generated one (the previous file is the problematic one)

      mv /root/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf

      And restart your system:

      reboot

If everything went well, you should now be able to access the graphical environment.

Solution for option 3, you need to delete the .X0-lock file

      rm /tmp/.X0-lock

      And restart your system:

      reboot

If everything went well, you should now be able to access the graphical environment. If not, follow the directions for solution 2.

In case it is not solved or something different than what I have indicated appears, post the error that your team shows you.

Greetings and I hope that with this you can solve your problem;).

Just as a recommendation, when you ask a question, try to provide all the possible specifications of your hardware, as well as, if you use proprietary or free drivers so that a better answer can be given;).
