Mint-X-Mac the Linux Mint theme but with OS X elements

Except for Courage and to another group of users who read this blog, the appearance of OS X the rest of us like it a lot and luckily, we have several alternatives to put our desk in a similar way.

Mint-X-Mac is a fork of the theme of Linux Mint for gtk2, to which are added the window buttons and other elements in the style OS X. This theme has support for gtk3 y xfwm as well. We can download it via @ xfce-look.

After making some adjustments (without putting much effort) my desktop was this way, I just needed an appropriate icon theme, put the elements in the panel similar to OS X and a good topic for AWN. What do you think?

And here is an example of how the windows look together:

Not bad, although sometimes better integration of certain applications for themes is lacking.

Everyone wants to be or look like Apple products whether on desktop or mobile devices.

KDE I don't see that they want to look alike, Debian, Arch, they're just two distros that don't want to look alike either 😉

You're right, but it seems to me that actually those of us who want the OS that we use looks like MacOSX we are the users. For example I have a PC with Windows 7 installed and i have it "Tuned" to seem MacOSX, but not for aesthetics only but I usually work in a Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), and I got used to it Dock at the bottom and the menu bar at the top. Well, for convenience.
        Win desktop
Linux Mint I have it configured the same.

@Akiro: Indeed, what you say is very true. Everyone wants to "hack" the appearance of OS X, which shows the great work of the Apple marketing guys: they altered the sense of aesthetics of the youngsters, they have literally brainwashed them at will.

Luckily my bubble haven't penetrated yet ... xD

      1.    Tina Toledo said

… They have literally been brainwashed at will.

Not necessarily friend, I can assure you that I know many extremely intelligent and thinking people who like the aesthetics of MacOSX, and tell me, is there something wrong with that?
elav and a servant we have publicly acknowledged, on more than one occasion, that we are admirers of the formal design of MacOSX and I assure you that we are not two zombies product of the marketing.

And let me tell you that also in the world GNU / Linux the users who have been asked "Coco wash"… Just go around the different forums and blogs and you will see what I tell you.

        1.    Ozzar said

Tina, obviously not so, I just exaggerated the question to give an idea. After all, it almost always comes down to a matter of taste, and it is clear that on both sides there are indoctrinating "prophets" of the good news, both aesthetic and functional, who have "captivated" many.

What I do maintain is that in general, without personalizing, Apple's marketing department has done an enormous job, both in the visual impact of its products and in the creation of diminished consumer needs ... even this has inspired many of their users a feeling of superiority or classism for using their products. However, I am not judging anyone in particular. I only speak from that perspective.

Anyway, they are not like zombies either ... xD

          Greetings.

This is true, the handling, and the subsequent media impact of each release Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), it's huge but how elav says, the products are very good. The other side of the coin is that this media fame also has its price and I will give you an example: just launched the new iPad began to publish that this one is hotter than the previous version and many media handled it as a "default"... what many did not say is that this is due to the greater capacity of its battery and the increase in processor power.

Now, I don't buy a product Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), because you need it. My needs are to eat, sleep ... I buy it because I can buy it. I do not know who having the resources to buy a Ferrari I bought a VW. Is "snob", as you say, but I do not see anything wrong.

… Even this has inspired in many of its users a feeling of superiority or classism for using their products

Well, feelings of superiority are everywhere:

Do not think that Mac O $ x is the panacea as the macaques are saying.

This phrase starts from the arrogance of those who believe they are superior and treats a group of macaque users for the simple fact of sympathizing with products Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC),. They are the fools… not him. Or explain to me why you call them monkeys Couldn't he have used another adjective?

Once again I repeat the same. It is true that they sell their ideas and products like no other company, but it is also true that behind all that marketing there is a reality and that is that what they do, they do well. And I mean design and aesthetics. The interface of OS X It has nothing special if you look at it, but the way it is conceived is very practical and each element has a place supported by a logical explanation. That's why I like it, because they have the art of knowing where to put things. 😀

        1.    Courage said

Nor do you think that Mac O $ x is the panacea as the macaques say.

It is good but it is not the best of the best as they say, it is at the level of Linux and BSD, nothing more.

A very similar look can also be achieved in KDE. We already know that it is not the same as the original, but to try other appearances from time to time is quite good.

Curiously, one of the things I liked the most about MacOS was the global menu (positioning the cursor was only a horizontal effort), and the last time I saw a version of OSX I noticed that this type of menu was no longer used as before. But there are other things that I would never emulate, like the finder, which seems like a mess.

This is the Finder de MacOSX:
      Mac OS X Finder

Honestly I do not see it plasta, even if we compare it with the Nautilus current the Finder It is much more aesthetic and functional ... but I don't know exactly what you mean.

      1.    pandev92 said

It's not bad, the only thing is that it lacks more functions but hey ...

Personally, in my opinion, the appearance of OsX well, I don't like it.

Leaving aside any ideal and anything related to what I think is correct and focusing solely on aesthetics, I still do not really feel attracted to the Mac appearance.

I do not know, the colors do not attract my attention, neither do the curves or the shapes, I am too Geek and I like the more square, functional, minimalist shapes that are very well integrated. I like something less "curvy" so to speak, something in the style of window managers like pekwm and OpenBox.

That doesn't stop me from saying that it's ugly, no, not at all, it's cute, very cute, but I personally don't like it at all.

We are already with the same ... that we like Linux does not mean that we cannot like something else ...

I will say something that I have already said publicly 1000 times and I am neither ashamed nor sorry.

I am a Linux user since 2006, I love it and it is the system that I use the most, but I also love Mac, in fact I have two installed, Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and OS X Lion 10.7.3 and I also use it with frequently, and I confess that it is more comfortable "not better" than in Linux

If I had to choose, I would stay with both, I love them both even though they are totally opposite poles….

I also have a Windos 7 which I like how it works, and I have to say that Microsoft has done a great job with this version, it has been much better than XP and Vista together ...

That we are Linux users does not imply that we have to discredit the other systems, I am not the Tuxliban. I like operating systems, not just Linux 😉

    regards

Who likes this to use it. Whoever doesn't like it, don't use it. Is there so much problem?

I personally don't like the look of Mac OS X, the way it works, or its extreme simplicity. Also, as an industry professional, I can say that managing "Mac lusers" machines is a real pain in the ass. And what they say is super robust and never fails, because if they were so kind to give my Mac lusers some classes, I would be delighted, since the system is loaded every 2 by 3. And no, they do not have administrative permissions.

The MAC aesthetics very nice and all that but the truth is I like 2 things the configuration and the minimalist, I mean, I love the gnome2 and I hate the gnome3.

I like LXDE and KDE (For its configuration to be honest I want it to be simpler).

And the truth is, I don't like the OPENBOX at all (Yes, Openbox is already used but it is not the same to use only openbox).

The truth is, if someone likes mac, then copy or install the mac os.

It is a matter of taste nothing more.
