Best Linuxero Desktop: November 2013

At the request of the public who follow Let's Use Linux, we continue our monthly competition. The idea is very simple: share a screenshot of your desktop on our social networks and show the world that Linux can also be obtained luxurious and visually appealing desks. Mint or Ubuntu? Debian or Fedora? Arch or openSUSE? ¿Which distros will appear in our Top this month? The best 10 captures will appear in a special post on the 15th of each month.

Last month's winner: Boris Dimael Vasquez

Distro: Elementary OS
Environment: Gnome (Pantheon Shell)
Theme: Blue Elementary Theme
Icons: Blue Elementary Icons
Background: Default Wallpaper Elementary.
Modifications: Conky, Wingpanel, and others that I don't remember: p

How to participate

  1. Get a screenshot of the desktop. To do this, you can use the PrintScreen key (or PrtSc, on English keyboards). It is also possible to use specialized tools, such as Shutter.
  2. Share the capture on our social networks. The different possibilities are:

What should i include

The following should be included as a minimum:

  • 1 desktop capture
  • Distribution
  • Desktop environment
  • Theme
  • Icons
  • desktop wallpaper

It is also recommended to include any description about widgets or other applications used (Conky theme, etc.).

Selection criteria for the top 10 of the month

Generally speaking, the originality, creativity and overall aesthetics of the desktop will be judged.

Although the opinion of our followers will be taken into account, expressed in the amount of +1 o I like it that each catch can accumulate, the selection criteria will be broader:

  • Amount of +1 o I like it
  • Does it include a detailed description so that it can be "copied"?
  • It will try to select diverse desktop environments and distributions

This means that this contest does not automatically reflect the preference of our followers and, eventually, some captures with fewer votes but with a very detailed description (including links, etc.) or that involve little known desktops and / or distributions may appear in the top 10.

Please read the conditions and selection criteria of the contest carefully before commenting or participating.

This same competition will be repeated every month.

I'm already following them on Diaspora *. I thought there was no activity on that social network.

It's a shame ... it has 2 big cons for us, or at least for me:
      1) It is not widely used ... and that is the main objective of a social network after all, right? If nobody uses it, it is useless.
      2) Likewise, the previous point is not the «decisive» point, but you have to make the posts by hand. Diaspora does not include any way to automatically post based on an RSS feed. If they made that change, we could "have life" in that social network without problems.

What really puts against the massive diffusion of Diaspora * is the ignorance that exists in this social network, since few in itself have valued the value it has as a means of being able to really communicate (by the way, it is excellent). there is a high degree of respect among all its users; on the other hand, the changes to the Diaspora * system are homogeneous (not like Facebook, that the renewal of the interface is heterogeneous, which is quite annoying in many cases); And they don't saturate you with a list of online contacts who want to break your patience.

Do I have to register in a social network? Well, you miss the capture of my desktop.

On the other hand, is originality rewarded? Let me doubt it. I copy and paste a comment that I came across in muylinux with more reason than a saint:

There is no longer originality, it is always the same. A gathering of the most used.
Some minimalism with bars like tint, a plain wallpaper, the conky, faenza icons. And bang «cute desk»

    Juaaa. »

      Can be…
Likewise, there is always room for originality.
You can always send us by mail -usemoslinux in gmail- your capture (although we only leave this for those who, like you, prefer not to subscribe to any social network).
      Hug! Paul.

I agree with you, what's more, almost all wallapapers tend to have an object in focus in the foreground. The icons are the same as always.
