Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise Pangolin) might NOT fit on a CD

En OMG! ubuntu They tell us about this ... as well as we can read about it in Launchpad.

The problem is that Ubuntu 12.04 would take 750MB, about 50MB more than the maximum that a CD supports, and the reason is none other than what at least I assumed for a while: gtk3 y Gnome3.

It happens that these 50MBs would allow some other Canonical applications to come in the ISO, as well as improve the integration and experience when Gnome3 is concerned, Unity like Shell for Gtk3, which translates to more code and more extensions :)

What should users do?

Well ... they could make a LiveUSB and install the ISO using a pendrive, or (and if the proposal that not only be 750MB, but be a 1.5GB ISO) and burn it to a DVD and that's it.

Either way, I think so Ubuntu It really can no longer be included in a CD, it would lose a lot ... but much more, because it would be (again) going backwards 🙁

Time will tell the last word… in the meantime, we just have to wait and read about it.

regards

<° Ubuntu 😀 is a bad mania in many pseudo blogs, first of all bombs they launch the Ubuntu calendar and as if to touch the eggs they do it separately for kubuntu, xubuntu, edubuntu and other herbs, then they come with the nonsense of how It will call the buntu that comes, then they come out with what will bring "new" ubuntu, and of course a separate issue for kubuntu, xubuntu and other variants and then when there are days left, they come with the nonsense "there are 3 days left for the arrival of Ubuntu XX.XX masturbating monkey ", and of course also for several they launch almost the same thing, but for kubuntu, xubuntu, etc.

Then when they finally release said distro, Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, mecawenbuntu, etc. and then they spend other weeks explaining the "news" they had already said on a topic so that they are not forgotten. For goodness sake, the amount of issues that open in relation to Ubuntu is unbearable and that are redundant and obviously annoying, but good.

That a miniCD be made, with the system ready for use (that nothing has to be configured by the user). And after installation, with the first boot…. that a script launches a nice presentation of the software to install (download) basic (office, etc) where the user only has to mark and accept.

  7.   Ernest said

It is not that serious either. As jose says, it costs nothing to make an installation CD that executes a subsequent script that completes the OS. Many distros, when they launch their new versions, offer the possibility of downloading the LiveCD with the plain OS being able to later download the necessary functionalities (in a guided way or not), or to download a DVD well loaded with codecs, software, languages, desktops different, etc ...

If version 11.10 and its famous Unity cannot save the furniture (and this is what it seems to be happening), 12.04 may make migrate even more users.

Hehe thanks. As you can see, I was able to correct the user agent. The elav tutorials did not completely solve the ballot for me (I suppose that when using LMDB there are insurmountable differences) but they gave me a very clear idea of how to do it, so thanks once again!

Well, nothing, to learn and comment. A greeting!

I did the tutorials from Debian, which is what LMDE uses, and they worked perfectly for me .. But hey, I'm glad you solved by your methods 😀

"B" for donkey, it will be. It meant LMDE, that the head thinks one thing and the finger presses another.

    700, 750, 850 MB, 1,5 GB, the truth ...
What does it matter, if Ubuntu survived Unity it doesn't die anymore.

Actually, he's still struggling to survive Unity… he's not safe yet 🙂

The truth is that it supports proprietary software but they should do like linuxmint, which in its 1-gigabyte version includes all proprietary codecs.

I hope that version 12.04 is stable and they manage to give it a 180 degree turn with the appearance and functions.

Just by including Gnome 3 with its own functionalities by default, some Ubuntu users will already be satisfied. There is a lot of talk about maturing (even more) Unity, but I don't see any future for it.

      Hello and welcome Julio 🙂
Nothing, honestly Mint will increase in popularity, the question would be ... what will happen to Linux Mint if Ubuntu stops being an active project as it has been until now? 😀

      1.    Courage said

That Mint will be based on Debian period
