Last Monday we talked about Pywall, an application that we use to generate a color palette from the dominant colors of our wallpaper, which we then apply to our terminals, in order to improve the automated personalization, the colors of the characters (fonts) displayed. Therefore, today we will talk about Variety.
Variety is a fabulous Manager (Manager) of Wallpapers (Wallpapers). Which among many useful features includes support for numerous Desktop Environments (DE) y Wallpaper sources, including local files and online services, such as, Flickr, Wallhaven, Unsplash, and others.
As we have already stated above, we recently talked about Pywal and today about VarietyBecause, with these 2 applications together, anyone can achieve a fabulous automated and synchronized customization effect between, the colors of your screen backgrounds and the color profile of the fonts of your Terminals.
"Pywal is a tool that generates a color palette from the dominant colors in an image. Then apply the colors to the entire system and on the fly in all your favorite shows. There are currently 5 supported color generation backends, each of which provides a different color palette for each image. You will likely find an attractive color scheme. Pywal also supports predefined themes and has more than 250 built-in themes. You can also create your own theme files to share with others." Pywal: An interesting tool to customize our Terminals

Variety: Wallpaper Manager (Wallpapers)
What is Variety?
Currently, Variety is described by its developer in its Official website, as follows:
"Variety is an open source Wallpaper Manager (Administrator) for Linux. It is a great application that includes great features, in a small size and with an easy-to-use interface. Variety can use local images or automatically download wallpapers from Unsplash and other online sources. Plus, it allows you to rotate them at a regular interval, and provides easy ways to separate large images from junk. Variety can also display wise and funny quotes or a nice digital clock on your desktop."
Today, Variety goes for the version number 0.8.5, and among the functionalities it has today are the following:
- When supported, Variety sits like a tray icon to allow easy pause and resume. Otherwise, its input menu on the desktop provides a similar set of options.
- It includes a range of image effects, such as oil painting and blur, as well as options for placing quotes and a clock in the background.
- It comes with installers and supports for Arch Linux, Debian 9+, Fedora, OpenSUSE, and Ubuntu 16.04+.
For more information on Variety you can visit their official website at GitHub.
Here are some screenshots of Variety 0.8.5, already installed via repository, with the Apt package manager, both from his Interface and from the effects synchronized between Pywal and him:
Variety + Pywal
Note: For this practical example of how to use Variety + Pywal we have used as usual, a Custom respin de MX Linux, LLAMADA Miracles, so the explained procedure will be adapted to the Desktop Environment (Desktop Enviroment - DE) called XFCE. However the same effect could be adapted and achieved on any other DE / WM, with slight changes.
