«Quake 1» for those who do not know or remember it, it was the first game of the Saga Quake from the company Id Software. And it was released in the year 1996 for computers. And it was so successful that it can be said that «Quake 1» redefined the FPS game genre thanks to its powerful engine quakeengine.

About Quake 1

So as not to dwell on «Quake 1» We will then leave the following quote about it on behalf of your official section on Steam where it can still be played. And best of all, played under his remastered version that recently came out:

"Quake is the groundbreaking dark fantasy first-person shooter that inspired today's retro-style shooters. In Quake, you are a Ranger, a warrior armed with a powerful arsenal. And you must face corrupted knights, misshapen ogres, and an army of evil creatures across four dark dimensions spanning infested military bases, medieval castles, lava-filled dungeons, and Gothic cathedrals. In these places you must find four magic runes. Only when you have achieved all four will you have the power to defeat the ancient evil that threatens all of humanity." QUAKE on Steam

How to install and play it on GNU / Linux?

Because, depending on the GNU / Linux Distro used could be different the process and the command commands. It is worth it, always to highlight that for our practical case we will be using the usual Respin Linux called Miracles GNU / Linux, which is based on MX Linux 19 (Debian 10). Which has been built following our «Guide to Snapshot MX Linux».

Step 1: Install quake package

To install the "quake" package we must execute the following command:

«sudo apt install quake»

Step 2: Configure quake package

To configure the "quake" package we must execute the following command:

«game-data-packager -i quake ./Descargas/»

Note: I chose the download folder, but you can choose any other or one where the necessary file can be found called «quake106.zip». Otherwise, the program will proceed to download it.

Step 3: Play Quake 1 in Basic Form

To play «Quake 1» We just have to look for the same in the applications menu under the name Quake. In this case, it is worth noting that the access created called "Quake 1: Abyss of Pandemonium - Final Mission" it will not run due to lack of the necessary files. While, when executing Quake the game will show messages of being playing an unregistered and demo version.

Step 4: Play Quake 1 in Expanded Form

To play «Quake 1» y "Quake 1: Abyss of Pandemonium - Final Mission" we just have to download the following file «quake_1.rar» and unzip it. Then we just have to find, rename, copy and paste / replace the files called "PAK.0.PAK" y "PAK1.PAK" by "Pak0.pak" y "Pak1.pak" in the route «/usr/share/games/quake/id1/».

Once this is done, the accesses will open «Quake 1» y "Quake 1: Abyss of Pandemonium - Final Mission" no hassle, no unregistered and demo version messages, and lastly, with a higher difficulty level.
